About Us

Hello, I am Dr. Rick Uhlir, owner and orthodontist at Southern Village Orthodontics. My wife, August, and I live in Southern Village with our two children, Eden and River. As a family, we are all really proud of our practice and we all contribute in some form or fashion. As a long-time resident of Southern Village and Chapel Hill, I am invested in this community from more than just a business standpoint. You are not just a patient or customer - you are my neighbor, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve you! I want to give you the best smile and the best experience along the way. I studied Applied Sciences and have a Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from UNC Chapel Hill. Later, I continued my studies in General Dentistry and Orthodontics, also at UNC Chapel Hill. I started my career as a Biomedical Engineer before embarking on the path of orthodontics. I am a member of the Spears Study Club where I enjoy seeking new opportunities to expand on my skills and knowledge in orthodontics. My philosophy is that there is never a time without opportunity for growth and improvement. Despite my years of experience, I consider myself a lifetime learner who is always seeking to bring a higher level of skill, service, and personal self improvement to every area of my life. I bring those principles to my team and into my practice daily.
